Alexander Willner is the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) Head at the chair of Next Generation Networks (AV) at the Technical University Berlin (TUB) and at the business unit Software-based Networks (NGNI) at the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems (FOKUS). He is working with his group in various research projects in the area of machine-to-machine (M2M) communication. With a focus on moving towards the realization of the Fog Computing paradigm based on semantic annotations and the orchestration of microservices, particular attention is being paid to the fields of application Smart Manufacturing and Industrie 4.0.
Prior research positions include the University Bonn. He holds an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. (Dr.-Ing.) in computer science from the University Göttingen and the Technical University Berlin, respectively. His research interests are on semantics-enabled distributed information systems, linked data, the Graph-of-Everything, communication middleware and service-oriented microservice architectures. He is active in relevant standardization activities and, accordingly, gives course at the Technical University Berlin and Humboldt University of Berlin.
